A Little Every Day - Week 6
This week has been a long, busy and somewhat exhausting one for me. The week started off with a marathon day of working on the food and recipes section of the website. In one day, I completely restructured it to be more of a menu with four different categories to help people find what they are looking for: Light Bites, Main Meals, Sweet Treats, and Vegan Meals. As a part of this, I put 5 different recipes onto the website to provide a valuable destination for these pages. This was a very long tiring day, but it was very much worth it. I love food and I am so glad that I can share some of my favourite recipes with others.
The next three days I did significantly less than before. The UK has had retail and outdoor seating for restaurants reopen and people flocked to the town centre. Even though we have remained open for take away throughout most of the last year we were still feeling a little overwhelmed by the sudden change. Long shifts that are busier than normal have become the new normal this week. It was exhausting but I was determined to not let it prevent me from doing my 15 minutes a day. For a couple of days I barely concentrated long enough to do my 15 minutes but I was proud of myself for persevering.
I’ve been making good progress with Chapter 10 this week. I have been struggling quite a bit over the last couple of weeks to figure out what I want to do in this chapter and what it gives to the novel as a whole. I feel like I now know what I want to say here and where it will lead which is huge progress. I’ve gone from shooting in the dark to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. With each of my small sessions writing I’ve gotten my brain to work through the issue more and more and finally I’ve been able to make significant progress. Before this project I would have left the piece and come back to it after a while but now I can see that it is better to keep coming back to it a little every time. That way it stays fresh in my mind and I my mind will keep working on the problem in the background. From day 38 to day 40 I steadily worked through it and before making significant progress drawing closer to the end of the chapter.
After three days of only working on my novel along side my day job I decided I wanted a change of pace. I began working on a board game review for Alan R. Moon’s Ticket to Ride. I struggled quite a lot on this and gave up after a while. Looking back over it yesterday I ended up scrapping it entirely. Having only played it once or twice with only one other person I felt like I couldn’t do it justice in review because I didn’t have the full experience. Instead of trying to push with this I started a new review of Machi Koro. With the weather being wonderful I was able to have a friend come over and play it in the garden with me and my partner. I remembered all the times I had played it at university with the RPG and Tabletop game society and fell back in love with it. I was able to outline the review quickly and with some ease and have been fleshing it out this morning. I’m hoping to share it with you guys soon!
Thank you for joining me on this week’s leg of the A Little Every Day Project. I hope you have enjoyed learning about my experiences and that you join me next week as well.
