A Little Every Day - Week 5

This week has both been a busy one and I feel like I could have done more. I was off work this week on holiday for my birthday. I spent quite a lot of it working on job applications to pursue something which is a better fit for me. As it stands, I work in retail and it is becoming increasingly hard for me to do what is required of me physically. My physical condition has deteriorated over the last year, partly due to the lowered demands of being take-away only, and partly due to other underlying health problems which have worn me down. My biggest fear is that I will become a burden to those I work with. They are supportive and understanding and I don’t want to push things too far and have to rely on them too much. It is because of this that I am pre-emptively applying for positions I am much better suited to carrying out.

This week, like last, I have been trying to chip away at Chapter 10 of the first Lonely World novel. I have had trouble with this chapter because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to achieve in it when I started writing. I am starting to make progress more readily now that I have decided what it will contribute to the story as a whole. I have always struggled with the transition between the sections of the story and now that I am aware that this is a transition point, I am finding it easier. Crafting the changes necessary in the tone and adding a sense of urgency is easier said than done in this instance. However, with the A Little Every Day mentality I know I can and will get past this and will soon enough be sinking my teeth into the meat of the next section.

Another aim of this week was to build a list of aims and find a way to direct myself into being productive and focus in on what I want for the website. Up until now I have had what feels like a million possibilities and ideas swirling around in my mind. I was beginning to feel like I was fighting a losing battle against the flow because there is no way I could work on all the ideas. So, I thought it through and decided to focus my energies on a few different aspects of my life that I could be happy writing about for a while. Even just deciding to narrow down the types of ideas I would focus on helped dramatically, I felt like I was no longer trapped in a whirlpool. There were suddenly wave breakers helping me to tread water. I narrowed my focus onto three different genres which define a lot of my passions at this point in time: first, is Dungeons and Dragons, thus I will be focussing on my campaign recaps; second, food, I will be adding a lot more of my favourite recipes and experimentations to the website; third and finally, board games, I am going to be putting more effort into reviewing the board games in my collection.

My published works this week, especially towards the end, reflect this decision quite strongly. I have been motivated more by prioritising the work I am more passionate about. I have been keeping notes and recording online sessions for my Princes of the Apocalypse Sessions with the express purpose of sharing it with my website viewers. From now on I am going to be focussing more on getting these recaps out there, hopefully one day I will get caught up. As it stands, I’m almost half a dozen sessions behind present day. The session recap I have just released, number 6, is the beginning of a more concerted effort to get this out there for you all.

After drafting a list of my board games, I categorised them based on those I had already reviewed, those I would like to review soon, and those I would like to review in the future. Eventually I would love to have a review written for all of them but that will no doubt take a long time, especially seeing as I have a habit of buying more games. This week I started off with a review of a game which I have played many a time and have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of: Sushi Go!. I started off with a smaller, simpler game to get the ball rolling and I am glad I did. I could have started off with a larger game but it would have felt like a mountain rather than a molehill.

The final push I am making this week is towards the third priority: food. I am working today to get a few more recipes written up and a new layout in place to allow people to more easily navigate the recipes. While it isn’t so much of an issue at the moment, it may become one in the future when there are more recipes up. I love food and I am working to expand my culinary horizons. I’m not particularly skilled nor knowledgeable but I would love to share with others the things I enjoy cooking and eating.

By pursuing a few of my passions, I will be able to give my audience a better experience on my website and have them coming back for more of the things they like. That’s the aim anyway. Thank you for joining me on this leg of my journey. I hope to see you back again next week for more recipes, Dungeons and Dragons shenanigans, and board game reviews.
