A Little Every Day - Week 2

This review looks at days 9 to 15 of the A Little Every Day project.

Looking back on this week has shown me how monumental it has been. It marks the shift from passionate project fuelled by the spark of inspiration, to a determined effort sustained by habit and careful consideration. I started the week off by launching the website and making it available to the public. I was so anxious about doing that, but I am so happy that I did. I can safely say I am proud of myself for taking that leap!

This week not only did I get three blog posts from the old website edited and republished but I managed to write a whole new board-game review. I reviewed the wonderful game The Genius Square by The Happy Puzzle Company. I have also worked quite a lot on Chapter 9 of the first lonely world novel. I have gone from nothing to being almost finished with the first draft of the chapter and that is phenomenal progress for me. In the past I have only worked when inspiration strikes, and my health is good, often taking a month or more to complete a chapter. I figured out this morning that if I was to keep this pace, I would complete my first draft of my novel in as little as two and a half months. I know that it is not always feasible to work that fast but even if I was to aim for half a chapter every week, I would be finished within six months. Never have I been so tangibly close to finishing a huge project like a novel in this way before.

Looking back on the week I am surprised how much I got done alongside my day job. This is especially surprising when I consider that I have been in considerable pain for a few days with my back. I think about my past when I would aim to write and wouldn’t because I would use my pain as an excuse and I see now that it was just that, it was an excuse. That excuse was plausible and completely justifiable at the time because I hadn’t built the structures to support me in my goal. Now, I have this project. Through the A Little Every Day project I have built the habit of writing every day and I aim to continue this on into the foreseeable future. I have used the momentum from my spark of inspiration to get up and running in a sustainable way. By aiming small, I am overcoming the hurdle of getting started daily with greater and greater ease. By aiming small, I am achieving more in a week than I thought I could.

Here is to working towards the future, a little more every day. Thank you for reading this weekly review. Please let me know what you thought on my facebook or twitter pages.
