The Council of Life

The Council of Life took place after the Great Sundering, which split four of the five Essences into smaller components, the Deities. This Council meeting was the first, and last, time that each of the physical Deities met together, joined in this case by common purpose. After the sundering there remained only one Essence left which was whole, Spirit. Without a physical presence, Spirit felt more alone and excluded than ever. The council was assembled to find meaning for Spirit within the new Lonely World, rather than being an observer forever more. It is unknown how long the Deities conversed for, nor what was discussed. All that is known is the result of the Council, for the result was life. Most of the Deities gifted physical bodies to Spirit for them to inhabit.

However, these bodies came at a cost. They were not immortal as their creators are, they would require sustenance and it was not feasible for the deities to build these bodies whenever they were destroyed by time. At this point, Ha’Laela, Deity of the Islands stepped forward, as did Zahael, deity of Daylight. Together they formulated a plan to overcome these problems. Ha’laela, where their domain is small and requires little upkeep; offered to provide means for the peoples to grow food for themselves and the ability to reproduce amongst themselves. Zaheal on the other hand, elected to provide growth so that the beings could begin life small and grow larger, making it easier for them to replicate themselves.

With this resolved, they returned to the issue of the end of these beings, for Spirit felt it was cruel to allow them to remain alive whilst their bodies reduced to nothing. The Nameless One offered to guide the Spark of Life back to Spirit, for it to be given once more to another when the body reached the point that it would cease to function properly. Yet, even with this it seemed that the people were still too fragile to live properly. At this point both Koorza and Kavaru stepped forward. Kavaru, first offered to provide the people with methods of repairing themselves so that torn flesh did not always cause death. Second, Koorza offered to tip the balance of the atrophy of people so that it was slowed until the Spark of Life could no longer be maintained at which point it accelerated until the physical body was no more. As such the state of fragility which plagued these physical creations was minimised.

Satisfied with the people created, Spirit split itself for the first time into many pieces, the smallest of which inhabited the bodies of the first people. There was a large portion left of Spirit despite fulfilling this task, and so discussion resumed. After a time, it became apparent that the people lacked something which life had not given them, with each generation that was born, the people had to begin again. They could not communicate nor learn, only survive. With this realisation Spirit was filled with a sense of purpose as the others were when they were split into their deities. With this purpose in mind Spirit split themselves once more into two pieces. Their names were Antani the Deity of Knowledge and the Arcane, and Yatana the Deity of Art, Music, and Storytelling.
